(More customer reviews)We always kept two boxes of these on hand as replacements when we used our Brita filter pitcher (we went to an in-line because we drink so much filtered water --we'd go through 40 gallons in no time, but that is a LOT of water.) There are three "gotcha's" on these filters to be aware of:
1. Do not let the filter dry out. When the pitcher is empty, you should refill the reservoir right away. When the pitcher is full or partly full, the bottom of the filter is in the water and keeping moist.
2. The filter needs to be soaked and flushed exactly according to directions. Some of the charcoal packing comes off in the flushing process, and if you don't take care of it, you will have specks in the water. This is no big problem, just something to be aware of.
3. Never put overly warm or hot water through the filter.
If you follow the directions, you will have, as we did, gallons of water that cost a lot less and taste as good or better than the water you buy in plastic containers in the supermarket.

(More customer reviews)I have been using Brita water pitchers for a few years and I am a big fan of it. The taste of the water is very nice. It eliminates the need to buy dozens of bottled water every month and it helps the environment because it reduces the waste made from the plastic bottles. The previous pitcher that I have been using was poorly designed, but this pitcher is very much improved from the older ones. It's silm shape fits better in the fridge and the lid doesn't fall off when you pour, which happend quite frequently with the older model. The smaller lid is my favorite feature of this pitcher which makes filling it so easy. The electric timer is a TIMER, not a SENSOR. You reset the timer when you change the filter and the timer will count down 2 months, which is the usual lifespan of the filter.
Over all, a very nice water filtering pitcher. If you're sick of the plastic water bottles I would definitely recomend this product. Plus helps keep the environment clean!

(More customer reviews)We got this pitcher as a wedding gift and we've been using it now for over 3 years.It's the same picther, we aren't particularly careful with it, and still it looks and works like when we first got it.It's a great size and fits nicely in our fridge.The sides stay clear (unlike some pitchers that yellow) and the top is solid.We were so happy with it we got one for someone else as a wedding gift some time ago.
Some others have mentioned black granules, but we've only seen them in the top of the pitcher (the filter area, not the area that filtered-water goes that you drink).It's our non-scientific understanding that those are part of the carbon-filtering system in the Brita filters.In the 3 years of use, I don't think we've ever seen them in our filtered drinking water - if we have, it was maybe once.
The only other con for the pitcher is you may have to wait a while to fill it.The top part that holds water that is passing through the Brita filter is smaller than the part that holds filtered water, so it takes about two to three fills of the top part to fill the filtered part.The filtering is also a little slow, but not a problem.

(More customer reviews)I had been using the smarller Britta pitcher(holds 5 glasses).That works wonderfully by the way,just too small for larger families or seriouswater drinkers. The only complaint with that was the size caused me to have to fill it constanly as I drink a lot of water. So I decided to upgrade. First I purchased the faucet mount filter and was disappointed.The thing moves slower than molassas!I returned that and was going to get a standard pitcher filter setup but decided to go with this one because it was onlyfour dollars more than a pitcher that held ten glasses of water.This provides 18 glasses of the best tasting water ever.I live in an area where our water is reputed to be among the best in the country(at least that what the local officials say) and this only improves on it!!Now I fill this up,put it on a shelf in the fridge and voila,I have great tasting ice cold water at my fingertips.I think this is much more cost effective than buying bottled water.The best part of it all?My kids have now become water drinkers!!It might be because of the easy to use tap,which by the way makes this much more convienant to use as opposed to the pitcher.Although they swear that they drink more water now because it "just tastes better".
I am, so far, very pleased with this sytem.I think it is a wise investment.
Great tasting water without the chlorine smell or taste at a great price!It doesn't get much better than that as far as I can see!!!!!!!

Think of it as water filtration for dummies. You don't even need to keep an eye on the calendar, the electronic sensor lets you know with a flashing arrow when it's time to change filters. Not to mention this system sure beats the heck out of paying for and lugging home gallon after gallon of water.
